All in a 'Days' work – Days Healthcare

Days Healthcare in Bridgend, South Wales, is a supplier of medical aids for the healthcare industry. When the company relocated the business with its focus moving from manufacturing to sales and distribution, this meant that the company required a pallet racking system. This was completed in two phases: one in the warehouse, and the other for despatch.

Having used RediRack before, although on a much smaller scale, Days turned to RediRack to supply it with the racking. They knew that RediRack would provide a good service from design through to installation.

RediRack didn’t disappoint. Lee Reeves, Operations Manager at Days Healthcare explains: ‘The design of the despatch and warehouse areas was a joint venture between Days and Redirack. The people at Redirack worked with us every step of the way and provided an excellent service. The new racking has brought greater efficiency, productivity, visibility of stock and general work place organisation.’

“The design enables us to pick and ship items efficiently and effectively, ultimately improving our fill rates and our service levels. We plan to extend our warehouse by approximately 5000 m2 in the future, and won’t hesitate to use Redirack again.”

The scheme, which is narrow aisle, stores a wide range of products, from high value powered scooters for less able people, to low cost walking aids. All the bays are decked with 32mm close boarded timber shelves to cater for the variety of loads being stored.

To utilise all the available space, both the warehouse and the despatch areas feature push back racking. The two runs that back onto the walls in the warehouse have two deep push back, while the despatch area features a single run of ten bays. This gives Days an additional 128 pallet locations that otherwise would have been lost.

Frames heights vary from 4200 to 6300mm, and Bendi trucks are used to access and move the pallets, which total 3000. Some existing Redirack racking was also taken down and reused to reduce cost.

Lee continued, ‘the design enables us to pick and ship items efficiently and effectively, ultimately improving our fill rates and our service levels. We plan to extend our warehouse by approximately 5000 m2 in the future, and won’t hesitate to use Redirack again.’
